The EU is committed to achieving at least a 20% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions by 2020 (compared to 1990 levels) and at least a 40% reduction by 2030.

The European power sector is a global leader on the path towards decarbonisation and has committed to deliver a carbon-neutral electricity supply by 2050.

Since 2012, the share of low-carbon generation in the generation mix has been larger than the share of generation from non-low carbon sources, generation and it continues to rise. This is a clear demonstration of the shift from conventional generation towards low carbon generation.

In 2015, the total share of low-carbon generation in the EU power mix increased to 56%.
