Rising electricity prices are a major concern for consumers throughout Europe. EURELECTRIC analysis has shown that between 2008 and 2014 alone across Europe there has been an increase of 47% in bill components attributed to policy costs and taxes. Recognising this development, European power companies are concerned that consumer bills are increasingly used as financing tools for specific social and environmental policies.

In this context, our research is aiming to educate electricity consumers across Europe as to what the real drivers are behind their bill increases. EURELECTRIC is also perusing focused activities to improve the accessibility of information on the electricity bill, thereby making it more consumer-friendly and triggering better participation of consumers across the electricity system.
