The Union of the Electricity Industry - EURELECTRIC is the sector association which represents the common interests of the electricity industry at pan-European level, plus its affiliates and associates on several other continents. We currently have over 30 full members, representing the electricity industry in 32 European countries.

Our mission and objectives

EURELECTRIC's mission is to contribute to the development and competitiveness of the electricity industry, to provide effective representation for the industry in public affairs and to promote the role of a low-carbon electricity mix in the advancement of society. In this regard, EURELECTRIC's main objectives are:

  • Achieving a carbon-neutral electricity mix in Europe well before mid-century
  • Ensuring a cost-efficient, reliable supply through an integrated market
  • Developing energy efficiency and the electrification of the demand-side to mitigate climate change

Our priorities

EURELECTRIC's key priorities that will guide the association in its activities during the current Presidency (2017-2019) are reflected in the Presidency Manifesto.

Our values

EURELECTRIC pursues in all its activities the application of the following sustainable development values:

  • Economic development:
    growth, added-value, efficiency
  • Environmental leadership:
    commitment, innovation, pro-activeness
  • Social responsibility:
    transparency, ethics, accountability

In application of these values, all EURELECTRIC publications and positions, as well as an overview of key meetings with high-level EU officials, are available on the website. EURELECTRIC is also a signatory to the EU Transparency Register - a voluntary EU lobbyist register.

Our work

Our work covers all major issues affecting our sector, from markets to energy policy, environment & sustainable development, networks and many other detailed topics.

Our members meet regularly in working groups in order to discuss specific issues related to these topics and identify - through in-depth and specialised research into the marketplace, technologies and legislation - the common interests of our industry. On this basis, they prepare policy papers and reports. We then work to promote the views of our industry at European level and effectively engage in debates with EU officials and other energy stakeholders.

Our activities also include organising conferences and events, contributing to press articles and collecting statistics.

To learn more about our work, take a look at our Activity Report.

Our structure

EURELECTRIC has a well-defined structure of expertise composed of some 30 working groups, supervised by five committees. This structure ensures that input to EURELECTRIC's views comes from several hundred active electricity sector experts.

EURELECTRIC's Board of Directors determines our general work agenda, main policies and strategies. All Full Members of EURELECTRIC have one member and one substitute in the Board.

Our President is elected by the Board of Directors for a period of two years. Currently, our President is Francesco Starace, Group Chief Executive of ENEL SpA. He is supported by Vice Presidents Alistair Phillips-Davies, Chief Executive of SSE, and Magnus Hall, President and CEO of Vattenfall. Together with the Secretary General, they determine the strategic direction of our industry association. Take a look at the EURELECTRIC Presidency Team 2017-2019.

We also have a permanent secretariat of some 30 staff, based in Brussels, which is responsible for the overall organisation and coordination of EURELECTRIC's activities.

For more details on our structure, take a look at our Statutes (revised June 2014 - available in EN or FR).
